  • 2014 visit to Malawi

After obtaining a grant from the British Council, Miss Bolden and I were given a life changing opportunity and spent the October half term 2014 working in our link school, Mtumbira.

Despite seeing photos and videos, nothing could prepare us for what we experienced. The hardships were difficult to comprehend; the everyday lives of those in Africa's warm heart are so far from our own. It was a privilege to teach in a school so welcoming and so different to our own. Some classes have 120+ pupils in one room; the older year groups had small classes (24) as a result of the pupils working for their families. Malawi is an incredible country with some of the friendliest people we've ever met; words will never be able to explain the overwhelming feelings we had whilst there.
