Attendance
Children who miss out on their learning miss out on future life chances.
If children have the following attendance consistently in each year of school the impact as they approach GCSEs is profound. This could have an adverse impact on the grades they get, which could affect their opportunities after school.
Attendance | School Weeks missed by Year 9 | Education missed |
95% | 20 weeks | Half a school year |
90% | 40 weeks | 1 school year |
85% | 60 weeks | 1.5 school years |
80% | 70 weeks | 2 school years |
Our expectation is that children are in school for at least 96% of the school year, please support us in providing the learning opportunities your children deserve.
We ask all parents to inform the school before 8:40 am on the first day of absence and to send a letter to the class teacher on the day their child returns from absence.
The Office will phone/contact parents on the same day of absence if the parent has not contacted the school.
Repeated or unexplained absences will be followed up by our Attendance Advisory Practitioner - so it is important to keep school informed.
Children are asked to be punctual. The register will be taken at 8:50 am. Lateness and absence will be noted on the child’s Annual School Report.
St Margaret’s are committed to children’s learning and wellbeing.
